VIDEO: Is Oprah considering running for President of the United States?

US media magnate Oprah Winfrey has indicated she would consider campaigning to become President of the United States.

In an interview with economist David Rubenstein on Bloomberg Television, Winfrey alluded to Donald Trump's successful run for US President as the reason behind her now seeing it as a possibility.

Mr Trump, like Winfrey, was a prominent TV personality with no government experience before joining the race for the White House - and Rubenstein asked whether she now thought about pushing to become leader of the free world herself.

"Have you ever thought that, given the popularity you have [and] the fact that we haven't broken the glass ceiling for women yet, that you could run for president and actually be elected?"

Winfrey took a while to respond, but when she spoke it was clear that it was something she had thought about.

"I never considered the question even a possibility. I just thought, 'oh'," the 63-year-old said of how she used to think about the role of US President.

"I thought, 'Oh, gee, I don't have the experience. I don't know enough.' And now I'm [just] thinking, 'Oh'."

The comment marks a change in how Winfrey speaks about the chance of a push to become President. In January, she told TV talk show host Jimmy Kimmel that she would "never" consider it, adding that "it's not [her] thing".

Winfrey was recently in New Zealand to shoot the soon-to-be-released Disney film 'A Wrinkle in Time', which she stars in alongside Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.
