Does flying the Maori flag on Waitangi Day show disunity?

Do plans to fly the Maori flag this Waitangi Day show disunity with the rest of New Zealand? Manukau, Whanganui and Rotorua have stated their case against flying the tino rangatiratanga flag. Ngai Tahu have also said they will not hoist the flag in Canterbury, saying the "flag has been nothing but trouble". What flag(s) do you think should be flown?

You might want to put a little more detail about Caoline's area of expertise. I presume she doesn't know everything about all New Zealand history. What is her specialist area? Can you define it a little more clearly, then people might be able to ask appropriate questions.

Is it our business if Alison Mau has a girlfriend?

At what point does information become a public matter? The Herald on Sunday has been slammed after “revealing” that TVNZ presenter Alison Mau is in a same-sex relationship. The outing has created unease for members of the Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) community, who feel Ms Mau has been treated unfairly. Does the publishing of this kind of information make a mockery of society, given that those charged and convicted of crimes go unnamed?

Yes I agree, in this case, that Alison has been bestowed this title.

Mars near opposition
Mars is at opposition tonight, opposite the Sun in planet Earth's sky. Of course, it will be easy to spot because Mars appears close to tonight's Full Moon, also opposite the Sun in Earth's night sky in the constellation Cancer. For this opposition, Mars remains just over 99 million kilometers away, not a particularly close approach for the Red Planet. Still, this sharp view of Mars recorded on January 22nd is an example of the telescopic images possible in the coming days. The planet's whitish north polar cap is at the upper right. Mars' tiny red disk is about 14 arcseconds in angular diameter, less than 1/100th the diameter of the Full Moon.
