An Auckland man frustrated at the state of the road near his home is taking drastic action.
Armed with fluorescent paint, Geoff Upson drew giant penises around the massive potholes on Kahikatea Flat Rd, near Waitoki in Rodney District.
Then, he filmed the result and hoped his artwork would action someone to fix them.
Mr Upson told Wendyl Nissen on The Long Lunch that since the video was published online, Auckland Transport has made some progress on fixing the potholes.
“They’ve done two temporary repairs. Usually a permanent repair takes a couple of weeks, so we’ll have to wait and see,” he said.
His footage shows giant phallic symbols encompassing a series of giant holes in the road.
As vehicles drive past they are forced to swerve around the potholes to avoid damaging their tyres and suspension.
But Mr Upson says he decided to take matters into his own hands after Auckland Transport failed to fix the road, despite multiple calls.
He told RadioLIVE he was inspired to draw penises after seeing a similar case in Europe.
“I think they call him ‘Wanksy’.”
“And apparently it’s quite a big thing,” he said, laughing.
Mr Upson hopes Auckland Transport permanently fixes the road, but time will tell if his actions have paid off.
“Hopefully they’ll take my calls a bit more seriously rather than fixing it 50 times temporarily.”
