Mike King - Sunday 8pm - 12am

Mike King
Right from primary school, Mike King knew he was funny guy. Although his two man stand up routine at Whenuapai Primary was brought to an abrupt halt when his partner changed schools, Mike continued on as a solo performer, single-handedly bringing school assemblies to an end.

It was a $400 bet with a barman that first saw Mike hit the stage. Mike King did a six minute stint on stage and received a standing ovation from the audience. Returning back into the audience to collect his winnings, he met an Englishman who argued with him about whether this was really his first time on stage. In the end the Englishman told him “If that’s your first time, you’re going to be famous”. It turned out that Mike had been arguing with none other than Ben Elton, well known writer and comedian.

After suffering a life threatening stroke Mike has taken a new lease on life, he has given up drinking and smoking and is taking better care of himself. He is spending more time with family and friends and is looking into new outlets of life such as becoming a wedding celebrant.

Mike is also looking for ways to share his new life approach with the people he cares about, and is helping many suffering from mental illness and drug addictions. Mike’s unique brand of humour plus his personal experiences give him a very special talent to help people in need.

Mike’s humour is well received by a wide range of audiences - no stone left unturned, no culture left unbruised. Mike King is hard, funny, astute, sharp and unforgiving.

Confessions Of An Over 60’s Nutter

01-Nov-2009 18:25
Yesterday I went to the beach, the first time for many years. I climbed down from the van and made my way along a sandy path across the sand dunes towards the beach. The sand was soft, my legs were very weak from years of inactivity, yet I desperately wanted to see the sea again...

I Am Nuts!

25-Oct-2009 18:15
I have a mental illness!! You see these days I can say that and own it but it’s been a hell of a road to get there. I am 36 years old and have suffered from mood swings off and on since adolesence yet I was never hospitalised until I was in my early 20’s when I was in a severe depressive phase. Though when I was well I believed I never needed medication so would stop taking them and I would actually be fine for a good length of time. But then things would plummet quickly into that dark, lonely hole where no hope exists and death sings a sweet luring song...
