Graeme Hill - Weekends 10am - 2pm

Graeme hill

Graeme Hill has written for television hit shows “The Unauthorised History of New Zealand”, “Eating Media Lunch” and the hugely popular "Birdland". He was also part of the infamous Sports Cafe team for over 10 years. He is a talented musician and member of iconic New Zealand band “The Able Tasmans”, but it is science and nature that really interest this multi-talented boxing fan.

Graeme considers his campaign to have the Grey Warbler win the coveted title of The Forest and Bird Society's “Bird of the Year” to be the highlight of his career. He is fascinated by flora, fauna and astronomy and during occasional holidays will always be found rambling through New Zealand’s extensive bush and wilderness.

He is the proud recipient of the New Zealand Association of Rationalists and Humanists 2009 Charles Southwell Award for services to Science & Reason.

Graeme is the proud recipient of the 2011 NZPCN Special Award for his work in the media promoting plant conservation.

“In terms of media coverage he is second to none, and is one of the strongest advocates for plants and conservation in New Zealand.” NZPCN

Feature Interview

Mohua
Yellowhead/Mohua

Our glorious and remote Southern Forest Park called The Catlins is one of the last strongholds of the Yellowhead (Mohua). Hear its sounds and the dedicated efforts to save one of our most delightful and colourful birds recorded live in the field with Graeme and DoC conservator Graeme Loh. These locals nearly didn't make it. By 1900, the bird had started to disappear from many of its traditional areas and, over the last 30 years, the Mohua has experienced a dramatic decline to the point where they are now a rare forest gem. Be listening at 11:30 for a more general appreciation of the Catlins with eco-tour operator Fergus Sutherland.
