Investigative journalist, author and controversial public figure Nicky Hager is back in the news this week, after a settlement was finally reached in regards to the 2014 search of his home.
In a sit-down interview with Newshub, Mr Hager said he's amazed Police admitted "all the main breaches".
"When they finally admitted that everything they had done, practically, was against the law - that they shouldn't have done it and they won't do it again - it blew me away. I wasn't expecting to get there but we did", Mr Hager said.
Mr Hager joined Trudi Nelson on RadioLIVE's Weekend Life, discussing everything from education to relationships, to the home he built himself.
“Normally I’m only in the news when I come out with some strange thing. I get yelled at, so I think people have a very distorted picture of me.”
“I have drifted into a job that suits my skills. I love research; I care a lot about different issues and social things,” Mr Hager said. “I help to find out what’s going on behind the scenes on tricky issues that otherwise would be secret.”
“And I’m good at it, which is why I’ve kept doing it.”
But Mr Hager says that is just half his life.
“I love tramping; I help organise a choir, I’m a singer. So I do lots of things – I have a real life, and I do this kind of unusual job as well.”
"My work is very important to me, but being a parent is more important," he told RadioLIVE.
