Landcorp tax submission 'a cup of cold sick' - Nathan Guy

Rural Exchange 09/12/2018

Landcorp has suggested to the Tax Working Party that New Zealand farmers should be paying more taxes including water, nitrogen and a capital gains tax.

National's spokesperson for agriculture Nathan Guy says this has gone down like "a cup of cold sick".

"Farmers are outraged by Landcorp's behaviour," he says.

"Landcorp did a bit of a sneaky. No one knew they were putting in a submission. They put it in a month late. It wasn't available on the website until I publicly raised it last week."

Mr Guy says he's trying to find out what's going on with the submission and says the circumstances may be suspicious.

"We think that the tax working group leant on Landcorp and said we want a submission for you and we don't care that they're closed,"

"We're unsure whether the board had even sighted the submission," Mr Guy revealed.

"Steve Carden has a lot to answer for."

Mr Guy joined Rural Exchange to discuss further, and also touched on the M.Bovis industry funding, the new Biological Emissions Research report and a petition on changes to the immigration laws that will affect dairy farm workers.
