A Napier nursery owner has been selected for the top award for women working in the rural sector.

Marie Taylor, founder of Plant Hawke’s Bay, was named Supreme Winner of the NZI Rural Women Business Awards on Friday.

She began the nursery on .4ha of Landcorp land near Hawke’s Bay Airport in 2005. Plant Hawke’s Bay sources all of its seeds from the region, and then planted and resold back into the community.

“She’s got an incredible 100-year plan out there to see how much of Hawke’s Bay can be reforested or replanted,” said Fiona Gower, president of Rural Women NZ.

Ms Gower, who was a judge at the competition, applauded Ms Taylor for having a clear vision for the entire Hawke’s Bay Region.

“Her passion and drive to do this is just amazing.”
