Taihape farmers respond to Virgin Australia's call for Kiwi meat

Rural Exchange 11/08/2018

Kiwi food company Hinterland Foods has put their name forward to have Virgin Australia buy their meat for their flights.

"Kia ora, Virgin Australia. Or should I say, g'day mate," says Taihape farmer Sarah Wells in the company's video pitch.

The video comes after Virgin AU invited Kiwi meat suppliers to create a bespoke dish for their trans-Tasman flights, as a response to Air New Zealand's plant-based Impossible burger.

Tom Wells from Hinterland Foods says they already supply meat to Countdown supermarkets, which makes them a suitable candidate for the gig.

"That has been really well received and it's given us the confidence to have a crack at Virgin Australia's awesome concept," he says.
