Ashburton trots hosting 'morale booster' this weekend

Rural Exchange 14/07/2018

It's all been doom and gloom lately with M bovis tearing through the farming community.

Luckily, we aren't the only ones who have noticed.

Rangiteki sheep and beef farmer Craig Wiggins is part of the team putting on a "morale booster" at the Ashburton racecourse on Sunday.

Mr Wiggins says the goal is to give farmers and their families a cheap, easy and accessible event to take their minds off things.

"No rules, just turn up and have a good day. Get off the farm for the day," he told Rural Exchange.

"People keep talking about resilience. Farmers do have the ability to just get on with the job. If we can have days like these where it's good, positive vibes [...] then we can just get on with the job."

Many local businesses and industry giants have donated some awesome prizes to be easily won on the day.

The first race is at 11:30am, and the course is open until 4:30 pm.
