The annual bull sale calendar kicked off at the start of May.
This year was the first video sale live-streamed for the National Sale in Palmerston North.
PGG Wrightson livestock genetics specialist Cam Heggie says the bull sales have exceeded expectations.
"We've had very, very good clearances in some big catalogues up over 100," Mr Heggie said.
There have been good returns on calves in the past couple of years.
Mr Heggie says many farmers will want to be improving their genetics now that a cow is a management tool they can make money out of.
A new trend showing up is for commercial buyers to buy up quality bulls and inseminate their cows with very good genetics.
