Queensland confirm Darius Boyd to play at centre for Origin 2
Queensland's Billy Slater will play at fullback for his first State of Origin match in two years, shifting incumbent Darius Boyd out of position to the centres.
Coach Kevin Walters has confirmed the Maroons line-up for Wednesday's game two in Sydney after initially naming the team alphabetically.
Jarrod Wallace, among seven changes from last month's game one loss to NSW, will start at prop in his Origin debut, while Josh Papalii has been dropped to the bench.
Gavin Cooper starts in the back-row on his re-call to the team as North Queensland teammate and five-eighth Johnathan Thurston returns from a shoulder injury.
Walters has resisted thrusting forwards Coen Hess and Tim Glasby into starting positions on their debuts for the clash Queensland need to win to keep the series alive.
Boyd hasn't played at centre since 2009, but Slater backed him to do the job.
"Darius, he can play anywhere in the backline and he'd do a fantastic job," Slater told Sky Sports Radio on Friday morning, before the line-up was named.
"If you put a six on his back, he'd do a great job there. He played on the wing for a long time and when he did get the chance to play fullback, he was one of Queensland's best.
"Defensively, every week, he gets on the kick-chases and gets up in the line.
"So he's very sound defensively."
Rising Melbourne star Cameron Munster has been named 18th man.
