Kiwi innovation recognised at the NZ Innovation Awards

Kiwi innovation was recognised on Thursday night at the New Zealand Innovation Awards in Auckland.

Over 700 people passionate about innovation came together to celebrate our country’s most innovative organisers and individuals across all industries and specialities.

The awards celebrate people with incredible ideas and innovations; NZ Innovation Council interim CEO Craig Cotton says “each year we convene these awards to help recognise and celebrate the amazing stories of innovation, impact, and success from all over Aotearoa”.

22 winners and 14 highly-commended awards were presented on the night, with Rocket Lab taking home the Bayer Supreme New Zealand Innovation Award.

Rocket Lab pioneered a kiwi space programme, with purpose-built rockets for regular commercial satellite launches, and this isn’t Rocket Lab’s first recognition at the Innovation Awards – CEO Peter Beck was named Most Inspiring Individual in 2014. The return three years on to receive the biggest honour of the Awards evening is testament to the continued growth and success of Rocket Lab.

A record number of organisations and individuals entered the awards this year, and the winners show the diversity of New Zealand’s innovation and businesses – from payroll and business administration solution, Simply Payroll, to Māori cuisine pop-up dining, Hiakai.
