High winds are hampering the efforts of fire crews trying to put out a huge fire at a timber mill near Thames.
More than 50 firefighters are battling the fifth-alarm blaze.
The fire broke out at Kopu Industrial Complex just before 9:30pm on Tuesday night.
Motorists are being asked to avoid State Highway 26 from Paeroa to Thames and detours are in place.
Fire communications shift manager Daniel Nicholson says there are multiple large fires on the site, "which is involving timber, recycled materials, and large amounts of wood shavings and bark material".
He says there's no sign the flames will weaken any time soon and they're still trying to limit the spread and contain the fire.
Volunteer firefighters have relieved exhausted crews who have been at the scene overnight and extra tankers have been brought in.
