Nuffield scholar on future food trends

Rural Exchange 27/05/2018

If you think urban residents are disconnected from how their food is produced now, you might be surprised to hear that a predicted 70 percent of people will live in cities in 30 years.

The prestigious Nuffield Scholarship allows our brightest and most inquisitive people to study the world’s future trends and how New Zealand’s food will play a part in the future.

After speaking at the Deer Industry Conference, last year’s Nuffield scholar Ryan O’Sullivan spoke with Rural Exchange to look some of the big picture food trends he has observed in countries overseas.

The team also asked Mr O'Sullivan about the big challenges facing pastoral based farming, and of course, what the feeling is in South Canterbury ahead of next week’s announcement on the Mycoplasma Bovis outbreak.

You can see Mr O'Sullivan's presentation at the 2018 Deer Industry Conference here.
