Whiskey for drinking, water for fighting

Rural Exchange 28/04/2018

400 delegates attended the Irrigation New Zealand conference in Alexandra last week, hearing what the future holds for the agricultural industry.

Both irrigation NZ chief executive Andrew Curtis & Agriculture Minister Damien O’Connor spoke at the conference about overcoming the negative perceptions of irrigation.

A big focus of the conference was on how technology can be used to help farmers make better decisions on using water.

The conference was held in central Otago, which is a good example of how irrigation can make a difference to farming and the economy of a region.

We learn what was said about cuts from the government to irrigation funding and how the industry is looking at the future funding of new schemes.
