Politicians have been busy in the rural sector since this past election.
We’ve had announcements on future irrigation funding or lack of it, national roading strategies, symbolic tree plantings and rural health, just to name a few.
National’s agriculture spokesman, Nathan Guy joined us to share his thoughts on the government’s recent announcement to end funding for irrigation schemes.
Mr Guy said it was another kick in the guts.
This week Damien O’Connor announced his Primary Sector Council to help him be better advised before making decisions, but Mr Guy said there was a lack of consultation with the irrigation sector before this decision was made.
He gives us his views on the Interim Climate Change Panel and calls from James Shaw for it to immediately investigate bringing agriculture into the ETS.
The government has also decided to discontinue its funding of RHAANZ, and Mr Guy comments on what National's approach to this funding would have been.
