Money grows on trees, but no one to collect

The first shipment of kiwifruit for the season headed out of Tauranga for China late last month, heralding the start of another record-breaking harvest valued at more than $2 billion.

This year's New Zealand-grown crop is expected to total about 143 million trays which boasts 20 million above last year.

Nikki Johnson, chief executive of NZ Kiwifruit Growers, explains that the huge growth in the export market for NZ kiwifruit has huge problems in recruiting staff and looming changes to immigration policy are worrying.
