Farming celebrates sustainable practices

Rural Exchange 21/04/2018

The Ballance Farm Environment Awards recognises and celebrates good farm practices which promote sustainable land management through an annual awards programme which is now run in 11 regions throughout New Zealand.

This year’s regional rounds of the Ballance Awards are now in full swing.

However, it is The New Zealand Farm Environment Trust that facilitates the annual Ballance Farm Environment Awards to showcase the nation's environmentally responsible and profitable farmers.

General Manager of the Trust is James Ryan joined Rural Exchange to discuss the greater purpose of the Awards.

While farmers typically enter to win, the Trust emphasises that it’s an “opportunity for farmers and growers to receive feedback from a group of independent rural professionals”.

“It’s been great to get around the country to meet some real characters that are committed to sustainable farming and growing,” he told RadioLIVE.
