Minister for Agriculture & Rural Communities Damien O’Connor has announced that 15 kingpins from around the industry will form an ‘advisory board’ to develop a strategic industry-wide vision for New Zealand's rural future.
In a statement, Mr O'Connor said the Primary Sector Council will provide independent strategic advice to the Government on issues confronting the primary industries
“This group of 15 innovative leaders from across the sector will provide fresh thinking at a time when New Zealand’s primary sector is facing unprecedented levels of change."

Chairing the group is former Zespri CEO, Lain Jager.
He joined Rural Exchange to discuss his three biggest challenges the board will look to address in its first year.
Mr Jager believes introducing the council is a positive move from Mr O'Connor and outweighs the accusations of his lack of consultation in rushed policy changes to date.
