Irrigation schemes don’t equal more dairy farms

Irrigation is simply precision rainfall.

James Shaw stated in his State of the Planet speech that “there is less arable land than 40 years ago, even though food production will need to increase by 50% by 2050."

Hill country farmer Sam Robinson has a history of involvement in resource management issues such as the controversial Ruataniwha Water Storage scheme.

Mr Robinson speaks to Rural Exchange to share his frustration at the ill-informed conversation about the benefits of irrigation which does not mean a flow on effect of increased dairying or decrease in water quality.
