Farms vs subdivisions: The urban sprawl in rural areas

Rural Exchange 04/02/2018

The urban sprawl is affecting our prime vegetable & horticulture properties, but it's not just the sprawl of our biggest cities.

Rural properties such as one Waikato dairy farm coming to the market is likely to be snapped up by developers to make way for urban subdivisions on the boundaries of Morrinsville.

Mike Fraser-Jones, a long-time award-winning Bayleys Country agent joined Rural Exchange to discuss what the market for both rural & lifestyle properties is doing in his area at the moment.

He says the lifestyle market is "very strong" but selling farms has been a little more challenging.

"People are still wishing to buy but there are just a few issues around the environmental impact on perhaps the value of the properties and just the age of some of the sellers who are a bit reluctant to embrace those.

But things will still happen, and they are happening.
