This week Dr Pani Farvid discusses the census and why it only had two options for gender and why no sexuality data was collected.
How important is collecting this information and why are people so put out that the topic wasn’t included this year?
The LGBT community criticised Statistics New Zealand earlier this year after it was annouced that the 2018 Census would ask about sex, gender and sexuality.
Social activist Aych McArdle, who uses gender neutral pronouns, is "absolutely flabbergasted" by the decision, despite more than 25 years of fighting for change.
"If you don't count someone, you're almost saying they don't count," McArdle said.
