The Kiwi-isation of the word 'heaps'
According to Dr Andrea Calude, Kiwis use the word ‘heaps’ in a completely different way to other English speakers.
Dr Calude, a linguist at Waikato University, joined The AM Show to discuss her research on the word.
Instead of saying ‘heaps of’ or ‘heaps of things’, New Zealanders are accustomed to using it as an adverb.
“It reflects our own identity and the way we speak,” she told The AM Show.
