Blue Shirt Initiative: Recruiting fresh faces into the tyre industry

Rural Exchange 16/12/2017

The tyre industry is one of those sectors that can boast longevity and a constant demand for its product. However, finding people to work in the tyre sector is easier said than done.

Phil Bixley, national HR manager of Carter’s Tyre Service joins Rural Exchange to discuss their plan for recruiting new workers in the tyre industry.

“The industry is going to be around for a long time.” he says. “Electric vehicles are still going to need tyres...”

It's a great industry to be in.

He explains that another benefit of the tyre industry is that there is “plenty of movement within the industry.”

To help get workers into the tyre industry, Carter’s Tyres is launching the Blue Shirts initiative with Ministry of Social Development. Inspired by The Warehouse’s Red Shirt training programme, the Blue Shirts initiative aims to get people in to trial the industry for a few weeks.

“This is an opportunity for them to come in and try,” he says.
