Identifying & Zapping weeds with drones
One million dollars in new funding for AgReasearch has been announced to progress a research project which would see drone-mounted lazers 'zap' weeds in the paddcok.
Kiourmas Ghamkhar is a Director, Margot Forde Forage Germplasm Centre based at AgResearch Palmerston North and he is heading the programme that would have a camera mounted onto a drone or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that identifies weeds by their chemical structure.
He spoke to the Rural Exchange team about the process to this becoming a commercial reality for New Zealand farmers.
