De-intensify dairy with collars
Imagine turning up to the dairy shed at 5.30am and the cows are already there waiting. One farm boy couldn't understand why we have so much technology on-farm now but we still walk / drive behind cows to muster them into the shed.
The Rural Exchange team spoke to 2017 NZ Innovation Award Winner, Craig Piggot, Founder of HALTER about his GPS remote controlled collar system that uses stimuli such as sound to manage the cows movement.
Craig explains that it actually gives the cows freedom and we don't have to have such intensive mobs of cows as can roam more freely as they will muster via the HALTER collar to the shed or next paddock.
