VIDEO: Deaf singer stuns America's Got Talent judges
In a new episode of America's Got Talent, a surprising performer has moved even the toughest of judges.
During her pre-performance introduction, Mandy Harvey, 29, reveals she's deaf and the woman standing next to judge Simon Cowell is her interpreter.
"I lost all my hearing when I was 18... I have a connective tissue disorder, so basically I got sick and my nerves deteriorated," she explains.
She goes on to say after initially losing hope, she taught herself to sing again by taking off her shoes "and feeling the beat through the floor".
"I'm going to sing a song that I wrote called try... I want to do more with my life than just give up."
The singer then performs her song as her tearful father stands side-stage.
