Taking GST off fruit and vege will not help low income earners - expert
A survey by Canstar Blue reveals 86% of New Zealanders want GST removed from fruit and vegetables to help low income families.
The idea is that will help those on low incomes eat more healthier foods. But will it?
One person that doesn't believe so is Professor Norman Gemmell, chair in Public Finance at Victoria University.
He says removing items from GST over complicates the tax system and the government would be better off just targeting low income families directly.
Prof Gemmell joined Stephen McIvor on RadioLIVE.
