How a Kiwi tracked down his birth parents via social media
An Auckland adoptee tracked down his Russian birth parents through social media and later flew to meet them.
Now Alex Gilbert is encouraging adopted children to find their birth parents with his I’m Adopted project.
Mr Gilbert joined Trudi Nelson on Your Sunday to discuss his charity and to share his own adoption story.
The 25-year-old was born into a Russian orphanage and later adopted by a New Zealand couple from Northland.
Mr Gilbert found I’m Adopted in order to help other adoptees share their stories as a step towards ultimately connecting with their birth families.
