Terry Copeland has been appointed as the new CEO for Federated Farmers this week.
Mr Copeland, who helped transform the NZ Young Farmers as chief executive, says he is excited about the new challenge.
"It's a big step up from Young Farmers," he says.
Federated Farmers is a decision-making company for most big issue events.
Mr Copeland joined Rural Exchange to discuss how he can help bridge the urban/rural divide, and what his main focus will be once he gets his feet under the desk at Federated Farmers.
"My interpretation of the CEO role is really rallying the troops and making sure there is really good engagement with industry, to make things happen behind the scenes.
"It's all about getting out there and meeting people, and listening to what people see things as being and what they want to see happen," Mr Copeland told RadioLIVE.
