Sarah Perriam dropped in for lunch at the Silver Fern Farms tent to have a catch up with the company’s outgoing CEO, Dean Hamilton.
Mr Hamilton describes his biggest achievement under his tenure was leading the effort on getting the company out of financial hardship.

He said the key was raising new equity – which he did by raising a whopping $260m.
“That really has created the strongest meat business in New Zealand,” he said.
The CEO said that Silver Fern Farms now can “move forward” by investing in its plants and its people.
Part of the next challenge will be educating other countries on New Zealand products – from getting more beef into the US and increase awareness of the country’s natural meat products.
“The whole grass-fed movement I think globally is gaining momentum.”
He said New Zealand is coming into a “nice sweet spot” for exports if the meat sector can prove its products meet that standard.
Silver Fern Farms has chosen Simon Limmer as the next CEO.
