Michael Laws - Weekdays 9am - 12pm

Michael Laws
Love him or hate him, you cannot ignore Michael Laws. The Mayor of Wanganui has a reputation for getting things done and he is not afraid of upsetting people in pursuit of his goals.

Achievements include being awarded the Charles Southwell prize in 2003 for insightful contribution to public debate and in 2009, Laws took on the gangs in Wanganui and successfully managed to get a bill through Parliament that bans gang patches in the city.

As well as his mayoral duties, Laws is a prolific writer and publisher, television host and a father to five children. He is currently combining some of these activities to produce a children’s book.

Heatley sets a standard of ethics all should follow

It is a measure of the lack of accountability of our parliament that Phil Heatley's resignation from his ministerial roles on Thursday caused so much wonderment. The prime minister and a number of pundits openly questioned the need for such sacrifice...

Standards a class act long overdue

It is easy to dislike schoolteachers. They are reviled for many reasons – fair and unfair – but the principal rationale seems to be that they are our first contact with external authority. We accept our parents having a right to tell us what to do: we blanch at such stricture from teachers...
