Which does more harm to society: Auckland's SkyCity casino or Lotto?
SkyCity chief executive Nigel Morrison says Lotto, and "mums in South Auckland" using pokies in pubs around the country, do more damage than SkyCity. He also says that the company's desire to increase pokie machines won't increase problem gambling, as Auckland's poor public transport system makes getting to the casino too difficult.
Problem Gambling Foundation chief executive Graeme Ramsey told Auckland Now ''research shows for every gaming machine you put in you get 0.8 of a problem gambler". The foundation also says that casino gamblers are more likely to have gambling problems than those who spend elsewhere.
