Like KRS said:'The police them have a little gun, so when i'm on the streets I walk around with a bigger gun.'Arm the police and watch the illegal gun crimes rise.

Yes the police should be armed at all times. there should be zero tolerance against those who assault police. the bad ones have stocks of high power firearms. changes to firearms registration rules will not take one firearm away from the bad ones.

Choice Bro, Bring it on... You fellas have to play the game. If we have guns you have guns. If we have knives you have knives. If we poke our tongue at you, you poke your tongue at us. Come on be real.

Teach them to shoot straight first,if they can't hit a man size target at 30 metres don't let them anywhere near a handgun!!

Firstly i would like to participate in this controversy topic which is "Should police be armed?". Last week our class(Criminology BA) had a debate on this matter and it was interesting to here different opinions and views on the topic where 90% of students disagree to have the police armed with guns. If there is one thing i agree on it will be the increase rate of death from both police officers and also the offenders but unfortunately we the public will have a greater chance to be gun down in the process. Tom i thank you for explaining what it is like to sign up for your own life to be at risk but of course i am too are more at risk getting hit by a car in a rush, or natural disaster like the tsunami in Samoa. The point is that the uniform deter people from commiting and not guns. Everytime i see an officer i am most likely to be afraid because of the uniform. If the government want to anything, i hope it is not more money spend on guns but more training for the police, men and women. I am very worried that New Zealand is following the United States footsteps. More guns will lead to more violence and will never solve the problem.
