Samoa - the aftermath A street lies wrecked by the disaster. The site where a building once stood. A beach littered with items tossed around by the disaster. The foundations of a fale that once stood waterside. This is Max. He lost several members of his family. When I found him, he was searching for his friend who had stayed behind at the bar where they worked, to make sure guests got out. A vehicle lies on its side on the beach. Afina (far right). His family lived in fales that took up most of one small bay of Lalomanu. He lost his grandmother and two sisters. A van displays the red cross, a symbol of hope in these difficult days. Volunteer fireman who has spent every day searching through the rubble looking for the missing.
