Ports of Auckland workers sacked

Ports of Auckland

The Ports of Auckland company has fired its striking workers, announcing it will contract out the work. Do you support the workers or the port in this fracas?

Affected workers will be given the opportunity to apply for the new positions.

"We’ve weighed up all the options and we believe this is the best decision for the future of the Port," said Port CEO Tony Gibson. Maritime Union president Garry Parsloe says the 292 employees affected are "absolutely gutted".

The Council of Trade Unions has vowed to fight the dismissals.

Should these workers have lost their jobs like this?
