In my view not having a capital gains tax is simply a tax avoidance scheme. The Capital Gains Tax as proposed does not affect the majority of New Zealanders and the latest furore is being driven by the current habitual tax avoiders and the exponents of the "divide and rule" philosophy . Like any investment the "return" on property investment [outside the family home]should be taxed. If we want to "maintain" and "improve" our standards of living in our society Tax is a fact of life Personally I am more worried about what we spend our tax dollars on; such as the real issues we face with Education, Health, Employment, environmental and social sustainability and ultimately the legacy we will be leaving the future Generations of New Zealanders.
