Nouriel Roubini, the US economist who Wall Street famously labelled as 'Dr Doom' - Audio

Fri, 13 Aug 2010 18:25
Nouriel Roubini, Professor of Economics at New York University's Stern School of Business, who Wall Street famously labelled as 'Dr Doom,' established his legendary status with his prescient warnings in 2006 that the U.S. was on the verge of a huge financial crisis.... In his latest book "Crisis Economics" which set for release later this month (Aug), he shows how we will all have to learn how to grapple with the inherent instability of the global financial system but more importantly, he explains what the global economy is going to have to do to get itself out of the mess that it's now in.

The USA economy needs a reverse Marshall Plan.

By reverse Marshall plan I mean the systematic trade balance surplus countries need to make more direct investments in the USA or buy more American product, not investing more in Federal Government Bond.

The only way to get out of the muck is to reverse what got us in, high oil/ transportation costs in the USA. Brazil is smarter than the USA in their Ethanol/Oil policies and their economy shows it. OPEC has more power over the US economy then the Fed. The sooner the braintrusts stops pimping OPEC on us the better.

"Crisis Economics" is one of the best I have read, and I have recommended it numerous times (including to my congressman). Economic illiteracy is much too high in ths country. Please keep posting these interviews to help those of us who are trying to understand what this nation needs to do to avoid more bubbles and financial crises and to get back on a growth tract.
