Mike King
Funny man King got serious in 2008, particularly in his support for humane treatment of farm animals, in particular pigs. His stand against dodgy practises in an industry he once fronted for substantial profit has cost him plenty of money and public support essential in his chosen career. His campaign for recognition of depression on his RadioLIVE Nutters Club show has increased his mana amongst those who recognise the bravery involved in public exposure of mental illness, but that was not enough for fighter King - he also championed the regional, local and hands-on nature of the Treaty of Waitangi for ordinary New Zealanders.
