Mayor says ‘Dominion-Post’ story “inaccurate & misleading”

Mayor Michael Laws says that a ‘Dominion-Post’ story by young journalist Simon Wood saying that he suggested welfare beneficiaries be sterilised “is completely wrong, I did not say that and I have never said that.”

“What I said – and have written and publicly opined on many occasions is this:

1. That the level of child abuse and child murder in this country is unacceptable and getting worse.

2. That there is a group within our society who give their children no hope nor opportunity from the moment that they are born. That these ‘parents’ are known to authorities – social workers, the Police and CYFS – and yet the authorities can only intervene after children have been harmed.

3. That hundreds of children are removed from their parents care every year and thousands more come to CYFS attention because of cruelty, drug and drink addiction, violence and repeated abuse. That some children these days are even removed by CYFS at birth.

4. That it would be far better for this appalling underclass to be offered financial inducements not to have children, given the toxic environment that they would provide for any child in their care. And that this is the group most likely to place their children in harm’s way and to be killed and/or abused.”

5.That the consequent financial and social savings to our community would be considerable. There are too many people who should not have children.

6.That all the liberal approaches on this issue have failed – education, public awareness campaigns, anti-smacking legislation – promoted by groups like Barnardos, the Child Poverty Action Group, the Childrens’ Commissioner and other such groups who are targeting mainstream parents and not problem ones.”

Mayor Laws says that most welfare beneficiaries are good parents – and I’ve always said that.

“Most beneficiaries regard the benefit as a temporary arrangement. But there are some who regard it as a lifestyle – who abuse it and their children. They were the target of my comments yesterday.”

“It was the Dominion-Post who mistakenly said all beneficiaries – not me. I’ve had problems with Simon Wood getting his facts wrong when he was a journalist with the ‘Wanganui Chronicle’. He has done it again.

“In my interview with him yesterday, I made all the above points. Obviously English comprehension was not his strong point. My direct quotes do not support his summation.”

Its da major of wankernui (dispeeling aside). I for two or three have long dispised the full blown socialist worse in the history of mankind welfare nation that NZ has become. We have permanent unemployment benefit, subsidised child care for licensed providers in a export nation that did away with farm subsidees. End welfarism NOW. At least make work for those who university education has lead to dead ends. Send young adults back to a disciplined system once they have matured in mind (the polyneisan body matures just about fully at 14 years). A really good scheme would be to remove the misfits from the lowest decile schools to bring back teachers to these schools, unfortunately they are the dumping ground in a socialistic politbureau type of setup where state best schools are for the wealthy or well placed buerocratics (bugger it lets say lackies) who pretend they are equal by not sending their kids off to private schools.

This sounds too fascist and arian race to me. New Zealand is full of whites who treat their islander natives a bit worse than recycled trash. If this pattern has certain results, either arrest the abusive paraents or give them the option including the children to be euthanized for quick results. It's never really was the money, it's if the New Zealand community is really willing to bother solving the problems real human actions rather than just dumping money like the United States is with bailing out a lot of financial gamblers who are too addicted to greed and not common sense like this part of the world.

Of course potential child abusers & child killers should be sterilised by offering them incentives NOT to breed, rather than the reverse.
I'm Michael Laws (Radio Live host) & I loathe apologists for child abuse: these surrogate paedophiles need to start thinking of children's rights and not those of complete arseholes.

I work in an American prison. During an intake interview, a 20-year old male told me that he had fathered five children and there were "eight more on-the-way" - all with different mothers. His idea of child support was a package of Pampers (disposable nappies) every month or so. While this may mean "job security" for those in the human misery business: social workers, police, prison employees, etc, what a nightmare awaits those innocent children.

Letter to Janfrie Wakim Mr. Michael Lewis is ABSOLUTELY correct. You need a license to fish, hunt, drive, travel, etc..... But any idiot, slug, low life or douche bag can pop out children. And society pays the price for these idiots decisions. Although I don't think you should pay people not to breed (why give the idiots money), you should absolutely require people to be non-felons, employed, educated and otherwise normal. For all the rest - let the gene pool get cleansed of their crap. Des

If they are paid to be sterilised, there won't be any problem with them "honouring their agreements", so long as the doctor is proficient with the procedure.....

Tony Rosenberg, I think you need to view the world as it is. I am able to judge whether or not someone is an idiot by what they DO. If some person abuses their children and counseling doesn't help, maybe we could incentivize them to voluntarily become sterile. Selfish people who do drugs and beat children would see 10 or 20K as a windfall and jump at the chance. by the way, I am reconsidering moving to New Zealand since hearing this news about how your country hurts children. Your mayor seems to be attempting to address an issue you obviously can't. We have cowards in America, we call them liberals. Not everyone is equal, they have rights, but they change when you start interfering with someone else's rights, namely the children of New Zealand. Changing the world, .... may take a while, but we could certainly start by having people voluntarily sterilize themselves for money. It is an idea worthy of discussion, not running under some false pretense of righteousness. Address the problem and come up with something or get the hell out of the way.

You have a small, beautiful country. Based on my studies you also have many freedoms. Turning rats loose on an island leads to the island being overrun with rats. As a retired law enforcement officer I can tell you this; don't allow liberalism and feel good programs to undermine your freedoms. Freedom isn't free. Do not allow the scum-sucking vermin to pollute your society like a bunch of rats by paying them off with entitlement programs and free handouts to not produce. Invest your money in more prisons and legislate stiffer criminal penalties. Rehabilitation is a myth. Spend your money building prisons to incarcerate those who violate laws. Don't pay them off. That only creates more of them because, for some, it's easier to take free money than to work. It's one thing if a person is unable to help oneself due to affliction. Those people need help. It's quite another thing to pay dregs who will continue to be dregs. They will just spend the money on drugs and pollute other people's children. Help the helpless, but don't help the clueless.
