Bernard Hickey has alot of predictions but so far none of what he has predicted regarding property values has been correct. Having failed in his prediction he now introduces tax issues to reduce values only to prove him correct. He really has no depth understanding of property investment. He fails to assess that on a house costing $500,000 the accommodation provider (landlord) is funding/contributing towards a tenant's accommodation to the tune of $20,000 p.a. to live in his property. So where is the landlord getting his income from to fund his cost of living today? So using terms like negative gearing to hide the actual detail shows that he is motivated in a particular interest and direction without correct reasoning. People need accomodation as a priority as a place to live and then be able to go to work. The 1996 census is said to show that 67% of New Zealand,s population had investment in investment property. Thus Prime Minister Key has to grapple with losing that support.
