Elizabeth Gilbert: A new way to think about creativity

Elizabeth Gilbert is a stunner. She is a best selling author, who in my humble opinion is not only damn fine on the eye, but is also a wonderfully wise human being. Her best seller was titled "Eat, Pray, Love", check out this video of her delivering a 19 minute talk at TED Talks. Elizabeth speaks about the creative process essentially and gives some great bits of information such as the fact that the Spanish word 'ole', which was used for bullfighting etc, comes from the Moors when they invaded Spain. They used the word Allah meaning God. This would be shouted out when a dancer or a musician went off into some astounding improvisational burst that was deemed to be of God! For example, they were possessed by god and expressed it in their performance, so a bullfighter did the same, thus 'Ole'. This particular video has him telling a series of great clean jokes. The other videos he has up are all about dealing with alcoholism, I did a search on father Joseph C martin and he turns out to have had a major impact on millions of addicts lives through his work. Great to see a clergyman preaching being so pragmatic, not just trying to convert or preach.

Well check out where the young punks of today have taken it. Yoga for Surfers

Bit a obtuse one here. It's all about MEEEE! I do yoga and I surf (well my version of it anyhow), so it was a bloody pleasant surprise to discover a Yoga for Surfing video series. This is just the intro, and even if your not into either of these pastimes, there are some great surfing shots that don't go on for ever, and some cool looking yoga poses. I bet you end up having a go at it!

Joseph Herscher 'Cremes That Egg'

Here's a brilliant piece of lateral thinking put into 3D by a young kiwi guy Joseph Herscher. His parents are Lyn Lorkin and and Hershal. Renowned music critic William Dart called Lyn "one of New Zealand's cultural treasures". Well Lyn and Hershal gave birth to Joseph and coming from his lineage there was no way he would be anything but talented. I once saw him perform at a Ponsonby Intermediate School talent quest, doing a one man band routine, complete with cymbals on his knees etc. He was brilliant, but I don't know if everyone got it, most of the others were doing some form of hip hop or funky dance routine, but not this guy. This video is the result of Joseph taking up the Cadbury challenge to 'Creme that Egg' a couple of years ago. He came second. I'll post another video of his work next time, he got commissioned by a drink company to create a similar system that poured a drink... Check this: it's genius.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, you rock!

Can someone please let the NZ government p**sies out of their sound proofed tax payer funded bunker. I'm sure they must want to voice their opinion about the Japanese Whaling industry... and make no mistake it is an industry... plundering whales annually in an area designated a "sanctuary" (ie, do not whale here!) As the incredibly courageous Peter Bethune sits in a Japanese jail, Murray McCully, John Key and their muffled mates are displaying an incredible lack of conviction, courage and vision. They don't give a s**t about anything but the MONEY baby!. Whether or not you agree with how the Sea Shepherd goes about its business, surely if you have any kind of balls you can have some regard for their passion for fellow mammals, folks we're talking about living, breathing, placental creatures here. Destiny Church exposed

Well, sort of... By a guy who has to have been one of Americas greatest comedians, check out this routine by the one and only George Carlin. I had the pleasure of seeing him here in NZ a few years ago he was definitely one of the masters. George created a routine back in the late 70's that had him arrested and led to a supreme court trial, which eventually affirmed the US governments right to censor language in the media. So when you watch this video of a routine he does on religion, make sure you're up for some cussing!... and this one's mild! George died in 2008 aged 71.
