Is the three strikes car crushing law for 'boy racers' going to have a positive impact?
Police Minister Anne Tolley today pressed the button on the first car crushing under the law. The vehicle's owner hit the limit of three convictions for illegal street racing, leading to the confiscation and crushing of his vehicle.
In a statement to media at the first crushing, the Minister issued a warning to those who continue to flout motoring laws, saying "they will get caught, they will lose their cars and we will crush them."
She later admitted to Michael Laws that she had enjoyed the events of the morning, the only downside being that former-Police Minister Judith Collins was unable to attend.
Is this law going to reduce motoring crime or is it tokenism at its best?
