Do you support performance-related pay for teachers?
National says it will implement an appraisal system for the education sector, which will include performance pay as a variable.
“We will collaborate in the development of an appraisal system focusing on driving up quality teaching and quality professional leadership. Performance pay is but one of a basket of options to reward and recognise that,” says Education Minister Hekia Parata.
The Vice President of the Principles' Federation told RadioLIVE's Andrew Patterson that teacher performance is unmeasurable and the success of a student is difficult to fairly attribute.
"[Kids] don't go through school up a neat little staircase and easily measured steps. They linger and then they leap ahead. So who gets the credit for the leap ahead?" he asked on RadioLIVE Drive.
