Life should be life. End of story. Life is not 15 years! Murderers are basically getting a slap on the wrist. If they want to kill someone I really don't think 15 years in prison would scare them. It's a joke, it is. But then you could create the argument that if the murderer was so intent on killing, a whole life in prison may not put them off either..?? Who knows what goes through their sick minds. All I want is for a killer to be taken off the streets for good. I hate to say it but in some ways America has it right.

One would think that New Zealand murder sentences are a practical joke. Why sentence John Barlow for the crime he didn't commit likes of at least 14years behind bars at Rimutaka Prison for gunning down Eugene and Gene Thomas and now he is released. That is why one would think that murder is not worth it.Innocent until proven guilty.$90,000 dollars a year and $500 dollars a day to keep prisoners in jail.Come on? Give him a break.

Yea am thinking of one person I have in mind!!!!! Would have a free roof over my head, no bills, meals cooked 4 me, my health looked after, no responsibilites, could have tv in my room, heaps of reading, am sure other activities, sneak in a cellphone, bit of pot 2 smoke if felt like it.....but not hav my freedom!!!!! Retirement on the inside sounds more convincing & I would have taken someones life who dam well deserves it!!!!!

Thanks for the epic fail comment but the only thing that's a "epic fail" =p Is our court system... I know about the tariffs that the high end officials issue our Judges.. Which just means we need bigger jails that's nothing new to us... But in cases that involve murder... And high end manslaughter I don't think the tariffs should apply... And is it worth it for some yes the benefits out way the cost in some cases... Not sure how much John Barlow actually owed the father and son but must of been worth it for him..... Least he can smile now he doesn't have to pay them back.... Might have got in touch with others who owed them money and done a deal who knows....
