I agree with most of the opinionists that getting off the National Grid is rather too tempting and the only way is to save electricity and as well as energy but not waste it.Whoever is telling us that the electrcity charges are going especially adding GST is a big joke and as well as the ETS and why introduce ETS.It isn't going to save the planet.Get rid of the ETS and also the GST charges and we will have cheaper power consumption.

Hell yeah.Get off the grid. But not because it is cheaper or even on a par costwise with the power I get now.It would just be so nice not to have that regular bill coming thru the mail. My major problem apart from the cost is what do you do after approx 7 years with the worn out and useless batteries?

Kicking out politicians who've overcharged us makes more sense.

yes,yes yes!......with the government help ,we should all have solar power, and where possible wind generation.then the power companys can start paying us!
By Yeah I'd like to get off!!
Yeah I'd like to get off!! But seriously, the only thing stopping people from doing so is the cost, resource consent & resale value of the asset when selling the house, not much really. ... yeah right!

I'd love to do it. Can anyone tell me the name of the company who spoke, Thier name was something to do with Off the Grid or was similar to Off the Grid

My parents in the UK took advantage of a Gov subsidy on solar water heating about six years ago. The amount they paid has been fully reclaimed through savings and they can't recommend it enough.
