A 'fat studies' conference will kick off this week, with the aim of changing the way our society perceives obesity.

Dr Cat Pausé is behind the event, driven by the belief the western world is plagued by 'fat stereotypes' and her desire to address the issue.

“Fat people deserve the same rights and dignity as non-fat people,” she says. “I think obesity has become an easy scapegoat for society’s problems”.

Dr Pausé says negative health statistics around obesity can mislead and fuel discrimination.

Is discrimination against fat people in the same league as racism?
