i think that everyone should have name suppression until after their trial. if found innocent name suppression should continue if found guilty name suppression should be very rare.

"If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; but if you really make them think, they'll hate you." - Don Marquis The reality is that a lot of the New Zealand population are actually scared of the truth. And of breaking some ideological belief that this is the best country in the world. I wish it was, and it will take strong individuals to achieve. It can be achieved. The reality is we have a justice system that is based on conflict and justified outcomes not investigation and socially appropriate outcomes. Sexual predators of privilege are protected in New Zealand yet we have shocking statistics on sexual abuse. I wounder if the perverted are protecting the perverted. Please remember the Manawatu Dirty Downloader was caught by the FBI and then protected by the New Zealand justice system.

To my mind Cameron Slater has just pushed the envelope on behalf of the sane and fair minded kiwi citizen. John Key has as good as said that the legislation is up for review, which gives me the impression that suppression laws will be tested (broken) extensively in the very near future. The writing is certainly on the wall and now some serious lobbying is called for via SHAME (good on ya whaleoil!) and the electorate. The outcome will ultimately be beneficial to the community and hopefully will be a catalyst for the country to get it's head out of it's arse and hopefully make the world realise what a bunch of dick heads have been at the helm for the past 25 years.

Is Cameron Slaters action a result of a 'bad law' regarding name suppression? Maybe Kiwi's are just sick of an the justice system that has one law for the rich and celebraties and another for the rest of New Zealanders. Imagine if the US had New Zealands name suppression laws. Tiger woods would probably still be playing golf and shagging all the woman he takes a fancy to. Tiger would be grinning from ear to ear.

The question everyone asks is who is the one with the name suppression and it and it casts aspersions on everyone in that profession/who is this entertainer/ who is this MP. The person should be named along with the name suppression ie So and so has committed a crime but has name suppression which is what the Brits do. Good on you Cameron.

Firstly the people accused (apart from one) have not been found guilty. Slater has interfered with their right to a fair trial. Secondly name suppression is in sexual abuse cases about protecting the victim. Slater has disregarded this in his egotistical attempt to turn himself into a champion of free speech. He appears outraged by the crimes 'committed' but has little regard for the children who may have suffered abuse and who now have their identity revealed at school and throughout their community. He is too busy making silly generalisations about left wing people to be taken seriously as a social commentator. His indignation appears to me as shallow and self serving.
