Was resignation the only option for Nick Smith following Pullargate?
Citing "two errors", Dr Smith this afternoon confirmed his resignation in the house. He surrenders his Climate Change, Environment and Local Government portfolios, but will stay on as MP for Nelson for the remainder of his term.
The minister has apologised to Prime Minister John Key and his fellow MPs for the error of judgement that saw his ministerial letterhead used in a reference to ACC about a friend, Bronwyn Pullar. Oddly, this was only discovered after Ms Pullar was mistakenly emailed the details of 6752 ACC clients and ACC subsequently accused her of using the information to blackmail the organisation.
Should Nick Smith have stayed on?
